ERIC LEVINE-ROOM 406
I.A.'s Marilyn Brady and Pat Kronenberg
We strive to provide a caring, nurturing environment for students with severe disabilities.
Students work on communication skills through the use of symbols, 1,2 and 3-cell PCD's (personal communication devices), gestures and spoken words. Students also work on independent use of switches to activate music, computer, light show, and vibrating sensory items.
Physical therapies include range of motion, use of standers, therapy ball, therapy swing, bolsters, wedges, etc. Gross and fine motor skills are encouraged.
Students learn to express themselves by being given choices, and are encouraged to replace any negative behaviors with positive alternatives.
Self-esteem is promoted by praise and experiencing success at "can-do" activities as opposed to "can't-do" activities. Each student receives one-on-one attention when working on tasks individualized for that student's level.
